The sequel to 2020’s critically and commercially successful Call of Duty: Warzone, Raven Software’s Call of Duty: Warzone 2 transports the battle to the all-new Al Mazrah map and introduces a number of new features and gameplay modes. The classic Battle Royale mode remains front and center in the online shooter, but players can also enjoy the Tarkov-influenced DMZ mode while taking advantage of proximity chat to communicate with teammates or taunt their enemies. While some of the new features introduced in Warzone 2 have been praised by series fans, ongoing bugs in the game weeks after its release have become a sore spot for many players.

In a short clip posted to r/CODWarzone, Reddit user ShavenTortoise showed off an example of the server issues that have been a source of frustration for many Call of Duty: Warzone 2 players since the game’s launch. As ShavenTortoise drives one of the game’s UTVs to stay within the circle, an enemy player runs out in front of them. Going for the easy kill, they drive towards the other player only for the enemy to blink out of sight, reappearing behind ShavenTortoise and gunning them down as they exit the vehicle. Switching to the Killcam, due to server issues the UTV was in an entirely different - and easily avoidable - position for the enemy player.
Responses to the short clip were filled with Reddit users sharing their own stories of having Call of Duty: Warzone 2’s netcode lead to an untimely end in the game. Commenting on the fact that problems with the game’s netcode can leave players on the same server drastically out of sync, one user noted that it is “Hard to keep playing a game that’s straight up lying to you.” Multiple commenters shared clips of their own experiences with the title’s unreliable netcode, echoing ShavenTortoise’s frustration. Between serious server issues and game-breaking bugs in Warzone 2, it’s clear that many players feel the game was released in an unfinished state.
As patches continue to be released for Call of Duty: Warzone 2, it’s likely that this issue and others will eventually be addressed. While fixes for the most egregious gameplay issues like faulty netcode and the proliferation of hackers in Warzone 2 are certain to be appreciated by players, repairing the loss of trust with the game’s fan base may prove to be a harder problem to patch.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
