While some funny bugs have seen the Overwatch hero D.Va launching out of Eichenwalde or getting trapped in the sky, this exploit is hardly a laughing matter. The glitch in question allows attackers on Hollywood to get out of map while in the spawn room, letting them get an early shot on enemies before the round officially begins. What makes this problematic is that there is no way to kill these cheaters, as they are behind a wall and cannot be seen by the defending team.

The bug in question was shared on Reddit by an Overwatch player named curved_trout. They block out how to get into the spot, as showing off the glitch would allow it to spread, making it more common than it already is. However, players get a clear idea of what is going on in their footage even without the first part of the glitch being on full display. In the clip, a Widowmaker can be seen grappling onto the ceiling of the right exit. Once there, she snipes the other team’s Baptiste, killing him before the round start timer even ends.

Another issue with this exploit is that, if a defending player is killed by a cheater on Hollywood, they cannot be resurrected by Mercy. Since the round has not fully started, they do not leave behind a soul for Mercy to interact with. As such, the other team will be down a player for the entire start of the match, allowing the attackers to be aggressive and take the point fast thanks to their 6v5 advantage. Clearly, this is a big problem, and all players can do is let Blizzard know that it needs to be fixed so that Hollywood matches can go back to normal.

As shown at the end of the video, the best thing that Overwatch players can do is stay away from the attacker spawn. Those in the out-of-map spot can only see the first part of the map, lacking an angle on the actual point. While it is a shame that defenders cannot push up to build their ultimate charge or push the attackers back, it is best to stay out of the line of sight so that the spot cheaters are getting into is completely useless.

While many may be excited about the Overwatch 2 beta, it is clear that the original game could use a patch in the near future. For now, players will need to be extremely careful on the first point of Hollywood, warning their teammates so that they are not killed.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
