Specifically, it looks like Call of Duty: Warzone’s latest patch introduced a particularly serious annoyance that is also a major detriment to the affected players’ general enjoyment of the game. In some cases, players have to deal with the dreaded “return to combat area” overlay for the entire duration of the match, and though some claim that they’ve found a way to get rid of it, the solution doesn’t seem to work across the board.

As big of a game-changer as it may have been, Warzone’s fourth Season of content is flush with issues in many areas of gameplay. From the new pay to win Warzone skins to the game’s technical bugs, players just don’t seem to be able to catch a break. And now, if someone ends the pre-game lobby session out of bounds, they’ll be treated to the red “return to combat area” overlay for the rest of their time in the given match.

According to some players, this issue can be resolved by dying in some cases, though other people claim that the problem persists even after death. Thankfully, a few have discovered that stepping back out of bounds and returning to the playable map should remove the overlay for the remainder of the match. Issues such as these taint an otherwise solid season of content, where features such as the Call of Duty: Warzone Gulag got revamped to ensure a better gameplay loop across the board.

As generally solid as it might be, Warzone’s Season 4 does have its own share of problems even when disregarding bugs such as the one featured above. Players are frustrated over TTK changes in Warzone, for example, which have led to lots of confusion as to how they’ve been implemented in the first place. Everything suggests that there might be some sort of server desynchronization in place, though the developer is yet to comment on this matter.

On that note, the developers of Warzone implemented a controversial loadout tweak that essentially nullified all the veteran players’ loadout switching muscle memory during respawn timers. All of these problems combine to make a potentially very annoying experience with Warzone during its Season 4 festivities, and it remains to be seen how fast developer Raven Software might be able to patch them all out.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
