RELATED: Challenges To Make Playing The Sims 4 More Interesting
Unfortunately, after playing the game for a while, players start to lose interest in building areas because it’s not that much of a challenge. Luckily, there are a few fun build challenges, and most of the time they end up with hilarious results. Perhaps fans will be interested in these examples below.
Updated June 20, 2022, by Ritwik Mitra: The Sims 4 is one of the most engaging video games around. The title is full to the brim with creative gameplay opportunities, especially when people get the opportunity to build houses and community centers for their Sims. That being said, Build Mode can feel rather repetitive after a point, which is why the following challenges can make this activity pretty exciting in a ton of different ways. Players who want their creativity to be tested to the very max will have a great time with these Build Mode Challenges. The sheer insanity that can occur when players completely adhere to the rules and restrictions of this challenge will definitely lead to them having a great time in the game.
10 Ugly House Challenge
Most of the time, players like to make the most aesthetic and beautiful house in The Sims 4. This is obvious since the tools in Build Mode are creative enough to let players accomplish this goal with relative ease. However, what if there was a challenge that flipped this script on its head instead?
The Ugly House Challenge is a fairly popular one in The Sims 4 community, and the details of this challenge should be obvious from reading the name alone. Players need to discard everything they’ve learned about Build Mode and actively try to create a nightmarish excuse for a house that not even the most desperate around would see fit to live in. It’s a fairly unique challenge that makes for a fresh change of pace from the usual Build Mode shenanigans players pursue in The Sims 4.
9 Solid Colors
A house is bound to feature many colors throughout its rooms and designs, which is to be expected. After all, it’s the mixing and matching of different colors and patterns that makes Build Mode a ton of fun to mess around with in The Sims 4.
However, this particular challenge restricts people to just choosing one color and sticking with it when building a house in the game. This can be a pretty major challenge that is awfully restrictive, but the end result can be fairly incredible when done right.
8 Boxes Everywhere
The Room Tool in Build Mode is the star of this challenge. To start, players have to pick an appropriate-sized Lot, then the fun begins. Using the Room Tool, build random rooms or boxes next to each other but don’t let them touch. Each box needs to be separated from the others by a maximum of two tiles.

There’s no need to build the rooms, all with the same shape. One room can be a square, the next could be a circle. After building the boxes, Simmers need to transform them into a functional house with furniture and a roof. Good luck!
7 Time Is Up
When players start building in The Sims 4, they’ll realize that they can spend hours upon hours trying to create and perfect the best house for their Sims while staying under a budget. As a result, some players can potentially spend days trying to build these amazing houses! However, this challenge aims to fight back against this particular ethos and force people into creating a good building as soon as possible.
At a glance, the 10-Minute Challenge sounds a bit too restrictive for one’s liking. After all, how is it even remotely possible to create a perfect building in the amount of time most people take to just look at the various objects that a player can mess around with?
However, most Build Mode Challenges are taken by Sims who are already pretty familiar with these systems. For them, building a good house in ten minutes shouldn’t be that hard at all, and players can honestly be surprised at what comes out of their creative zeal when the shackles of time are seemingly constraining it..
6 Backward
Ever build a house backward? Well, now, players have a chance to try it with this challenge. Normally, building a house starts with :
Placing foundations (if wanted) Building the general shape of the house Figuring out the layout of the build Painting the walls and floors Furnishing the house.
To start this challenge, Simmers need to consider the last step is the first one. First, place the furniture, and then walk backward until they reach the foundation. As for stuff like windows, mirrors, and pictures, it is allowed to use the bb.moveobjects on cheat. Simmers need to hang them in the air and pray that when the walls are built, the hanging item will stick to it. If not, then the house will surely come out weird one way or another.
5 Packs
Over the last couple of years, The Sims 4 has released many Expansion Packs and Stuff Packs. Simmers can take advantage of those and create a house. The Sims 4 Packs are all listed in the Filter Box. If one of them is selected, everything related to it will show up and nothing else.
With that in mind, players can build a house but decorate every space using random Packs. For example, they can use Cottage Living in the kitchen but furnish the living room with Island Living. It depends on which Pack they get. It’s worthy of note that YouTuber, James Turner, created a Sims 4 Packs Generator, making it a lot easier to decide which Packs gamers should use.
4 On A Budget
Thanks to a lot of The Sims 4’s cheats, Simmers can now have access to an unlimited amount of Simoleons. They simply need to write Money X (replace X with a specific amount) in the cheat box.
This challenge, however, is different. Players can enter an empty Lot and give themselves a reasonable amount of money (for example, 20,000 Simoleons) and start building. The catch is that they have to build this house for over one Sim, and they are not allowed to exceed the budget. The extreme version of this challenge is to build a house for eight Sims on a budget.
3 House Shaped Like…
Ever get sick of building the same shape of houses in The Sims 4? Well, as a change of pace, players can try building weird shapes and try to turn them into a functional home. The shapes can be anything they think of; a heart, cat, dog, or even a Christmas tree! Everything is allowed as long as it’s weird.

The inside can become a little awkward, especially if the shape has many corners, like a star. The outside needs to be painted or decorated with colors and objects respectively that are related to the house’s shape. For instance, a heart-shaped house needs to be painted with colors like pink and red.
2 Different Colors
For Simmers who struggle with matching colors in their build, this challenge can certainly help. Well, not really. Because in this challenge, players are going to decorate the outside and all rooms of the house with different colors.
In the Filter Box, there’s an option called Colors, which has a list of all possible colors. Use a random generator to pick a color (or go old-school and use paper). Whatever color Simmers get, they need to furnish the entire room with this color. Keep repeating the same step until all rooms are finished.
1 Grayscale And Inverted
First, players have to make their devices black and white (Grayscale). Now, when they enter The Sims 4, everything should be black and white. To complete this challenge, Simmers need to build a house without colors. Then, after they’re done, turn off the Grayscale and see what crazy color combinations they created.
As for the inverted colors, it’s almost the same case as mentioned before. However, the only difference would be that this time there are colors, but inverted. If players thought this couch is pink, it’s not. It’s actually green. The results are certainly going to be crazy. But the important part is to have fun, right?
The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
