In generations past, a new console sometimes felt barren, as there weren’t a ton of games or things to do on it in general. It seems that both Microsoft and Sony have decided to turn that around, giving fans tons of launch games, backwards compatibility, and other ways to enjoy the new console like the Funimation app.

In its official statement, Funimation confirmed that the streaming app would be ready for only the Xbox Series X, so there’s no guarantee it will be available for PS5 on launch day, meaning those waiting the extra two days for PlayStation’s take on next generation gaming may end up finding themselves out of luck. Thankfully, fans should start seeing the effects of Sony’s imminent acquisition of Crunchyroll, with that streaming platform becoming more prevalent on Sony’s consoles.

Funimation does seem to recognize that there will be plenty of other things to keep fans occupied outside of anime, but recommends that players take infrequent breaks “in between bouts of Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.” Fans are understandably very excited, as the alternative would have been keeping whatever other device players used for streaming in addition to the new console. Since the Xbox Series X is backwards compatible, there wouldn’t have been much of a reason to do that, and now there’s even less.

Funimation is available now on Xbox Series X.
