Ever since the first game came out in 2005, God of War has spawned multiple sequels that fans have adored over the years. While there are many reasons these games resonate with millions of players alike, one of the key elements that makes the God of War series so beloved is its harsh, heavy-hitting settings. Usually taking place in a location based on either Greek or Norse mythology, the in-game world will constantly barrage the player with various secret booby traps and pitfalls in order to keep them on their toes.

Fortunately, 2018’s God of War is no different in this aspect. Set primarily in the ancient realm of Midgard, many hidden environmental hazards await Kratos while on his journey to the highest peak of the nine realms. However, while deadly complex puzzles are usually the bane of Kratos’ existence, that’s not to say something as simple as a spike trap cannot get the upper hand on the demigod Spartan warrior every now and then. To reinforce this point, Reddit user NO84MADD has shared their run-in with some of the Norse undead that comes to a funny yet shocking finale for Kratos.

Captured in God of War while exploring a claustrophobic hallway, NO84MADD encounters a colossal wall that retracts upwards to reveal that there are spikes attached to its underbelly. With this, NO84MADD steps back and prepares to battle the gang of draugrs that ensue from the end of the hallway. However, while NO84MADD swiftly massacres the first draugr with ease, one ill-timed parry sees Kratos turned into Swiss cheese as the spikes plunge to flatten the demigod.

The hilarious yet relatable aspect of NO84MADD’s experience led to their post going viral on the God of War subreddit, as it quickly earned nearly 2000 upvotes. In the replies, many users further shared their humbling slip-ups with other players. From the bunch, one user perfectly summarizes the feeling of Kratos dying to the game’s simple spike traps, as they merely state, “I did that… Twice. Don’t ask. [I don’t know] how either.”

God of War is available now on PC, PS4, and PS5.
