Every city in Skyrim has an inn where players can buy basic food items, rest, and listen to songs. The Bannered Mare is one of the most popular taverns in Skyrim, as it’s located in Whiterun, the first major city players visit after the introduction sequence. Whiterun is also home to The Companions, and it’s natural for players to spend hours traveling to and from the city. Now, a Skyrim player uploads a short clip of a funny NPC interaction they witnessed inside The Bannered Mare.

A player named Huge_Best_World_Hero kills The Bannered Mare’s owner Hulda with a bow and arrow. An NPC named Ysolda rushes to her side and expresses shock at her death, but immediately changes her stance and stands behind the counter like she owns the place. Huge_Best_World_Hero can then interact with her with all the tavern dialogue options available to them. It seems like Skyrim registers Ysolda as the manager of The Bannered Mare after Hulda dies, but it’s hilarious to see the transfer of power being so sudden.
As most users point out, Ysolda couldn’t care less about the murder as she immediately takes over and starts greeting customers a few seconds after Hulda’s death. Similarly, the Skyrim bard continues singing without missing a step. Idolaf Battle-Born, on the other hand, seems to be suspicious of Huge_Best_World_Hero.
Judging by other comments, Ysolda can also take over Belethor’s General Goods should players kill its owner Belethor. However, it looks like Belethor’s General Goods remains locked up if both Hulda and Belethor are killed, as Ysolda only takes over The Bannered Mare.
Players will often encounter similar funny NPC interactions across Skyrim, but they can download several mods that add more realism to the game. As an example, the Interesting NPCs mod adds over 250 NPCs, more than 25 new followers, and over 50 quests to Skyrim. Those looking for more diversity can also download the Diverse Skyrim mod, which adds NPCs from various races to their game.
