Posting to the Skyrim Subreddit recently, the aptly named user Dragon_Borne_ has managed to capture a brief clip of a portion of the game which, as far as they can tell, was definitely not meant to take place. The five-second clip shows a dragon from the game soaring high in the air, just outside Whiterun. Only perched on their back appears to be a giant, which is standing on the creature’s tail, rather than sitting comfortably, as the flying beast swoops off and out of sight.

While the clip is very short, it has caused some amusement in the comments, with one user positing in a tongue-in-cheek manner about the idea that both NPCs have teamed up. Skyrim’s giants, along with the dragons themselves, are some of the game’s biggest and most difficult enemies to do battle with. While it’s obviously just a glitch, especially given the way the giant is just perched on the dragon, to some in the thread, it jokingly opens up the idea that these two denizens of the world could be in symbiosis. While the giants are normally placid unless threatened, one commenter imagined a scenario in which a dragon is swooping overhead, only for them to drop a giant down onto the player like some kind of bomb.
Another person mentioned the fact that this sort of occurrence is actually quite common in the game, which is definitely true. There have been numerous sightings of giants riding on the backs of dragons in Skyrim. It’s obviously something that happens more often than people may think, but it’s still a pretty funny sight to behold. It doesn’t seem like Bethesda are in a rush to patch out the glitch, it seems, especially as it’s a pretty harmless bug.
With the Skyrim: Anniversary Edition coming out in just a few days, there is perhaps never a better time to get into the frost-covered open world fantasy RPG. It may have its amusing bugs that cause mirth among the community, but that is perhaps what makes it such a charming entrance in the franchise, and what keeps it going strong after a decade.
Skyrim: Anniversary Edition is releasing on November 11, 2021, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
