Many fans who have been playing the Expansion Pack versions of these N64 games note a litany of problems. These include input lag, low frame rates, texture problems, and missing features just to name a few. While patches for the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack have improved the overall experience, some are still frustrated that issues like this shouldn’t have cropped up in the first place. Even the latest release, Kirby 64, has a game-breaking bug that wasn’t present in the original release.

This glitch was first posted to the r/NintendoSwitch subreddit, where it showed a clip against one of Kirby 64’s boss fights, Acro the orca. This is a fight that takes place underwater, with unique swimming controls and movement. The video showed off that if Kirby is hit underwater by an enemy, Kirby will be stuck in his hit stun animation, and the player won’t be able to control him. Other clips of the glitch showed off that this can occur with any enemy underwater in World 3.

This glitch doesn’t occur in the original game, and the only way to fix this softlock is to quit the level and try again. This did catch the attention of Nintendo, however, as a recent tweet notes this game breaking bug will be addressed in an upcoming patch to the service. This patch will be rolled out next week, though no specific date has been provided at this time.

While it’s good this issue is being addressed quickly, it continues to boil the blood of the company’s fans in a conveyor belt of issues that many have taken with the service. Hopefully this incident shows Nintendo how the emulation service needs to be addressed in future content updates, especially if the rumored Game Boy support turns out to be true.
